Within a three month period in Sout India I ran from the waters of the big tsunami of 2004, and within a month broke my foot (which meant cast and crutches for six weeks): a situation that was later complicated by a wretched illness and hospital stay. But ultimately, as is usually the case when life presents huge challenges, this experience forced me to surrender everything to the Universe! I returned to the USA with a new inner world view and a sense of knowingness: this world and its pains and pleasures are indeed temporary. Back in California, I went to visit my dear friend Brian who is an amazing producer and creative director. Because we are so used to working together he wanted to share some of his newest instrumental music with me, as soon as I heard the first track I asked if I could sing some new lyrics with it. He set up a mic and that was the conception of Love Joy (as Brian has affectionately called it from the beginning). So three years later, the birthing process is finally complete, and it has been a project of Love and Joy all the way. Brian, who is a masterful wizard with sound and vibration has taken his music, my vocals and Bhagavan Das’s performance and created a true healing experience. We were blessed to have Bhagavan Das join us one afternoon in the studio and he sang and chanted and did his magic on four of our tracks. After spending so much time traveling in India, the mantras and melodies came easily and once Brian asked me to translate some of the Sanskrit into English within the songs, everything came together… and that is how we created Love Joy.
